Bill 13 - Accepting Schools Act Information And Resources

Thank you for taking the time to look into this issue. In meeting after meeting, the most concerning aspect of this Bill is how few people know about it. FCP attended a recent presentation made by a constitutional lawyer, to a gathering of over 10 concerned organizations. In his opinion, from a legal standpoint, Bill 13 has nothing to do with bullying, but is actually an EXAMPLE of bullying through biased legislation. Coupled with the statements made by Minister of Education Laurel Broten during 2nd reading of the Bill- regarding how this is the first step of a much larger plan- this bill appears to be part of a strategy created with the intention of removing all aspects of faith from public life. If Bill 13 passes without amendments, it will:

  • Deal with bullying only on a selective basis
  • Mandate a sexual education curriculum beginning in kindergarten
  • Discriminate against persons with traditional faith values

Tips for Action Items:

Responding to any political issue requires careful consideration. Please note that the following are listed in order of effectiveness.

  1. View and share the video with friends and family and encourage them to respond.
  2. Call you MPP and seek an appointment to discuss Bill 13 – use the talking points documents as a guide, show him/her the video from the website.
  3. Call your MPP and leave a message about your concern over Bill 13, suggest they link to the video for more information.
  4. Send an email message to your MPP – use our email message as a guide. It would be best for you to modify this to make it your own. You may also encourage them to link to the video.
  5. Circulate a petition, get signatures, and present them to your MPP. This usually is the least effective action, but it does help to inform others about the issue.

How to make a petition campaign more effective:

    • distribute MPP contact info to the people who sign, and encourage them to contact their MPP and share their reasons for objecting to the legislation.
    • Once signatures are collected, schedule an appointment with your MPP, you may even want to invite some of the people who signed to join you.
